Autumnal Flight and Freedom

Today, first Sunday of October with the sun shining I decided to ride out to Shobdon Aerodrome via a different route for a change,  but as is my style I like to make the route up as I go following  a chap on a Tracer seeing where he is heading up over Clee Hill his aftermarket exhaust howling at me, I found I had no trouble matching his acceleration. I continued to follow him right on to the A49 before taking the left down to Leintwardine and on to the interesting roads out through Wigmore and into Herefordshire.

This time of year it's the apple harvest, so on the way I met several tractors and trailers full of apples and plenty of mud on the road as they come in and out of the orchards to transport the Cider processing plants. A bit of care required negotiating the bends as I come face to face with the width of these modern tractors taking up some of my side of the road too. The air smelling so sweet of apple aroma and the earthy autumn countryside, with trees showing a brown and gold hue now, and quite a few flurries of fallen leaves loose on the road.

At the airfield there was quite a bit of activity, several bikes including a nice yellow Triumph Trophy cup parked up. It was good to touch base with Ron too, who it sounds like had a good trip away recently. While I was eating a sausage sandwich outside, a pair of micro light aircraft were preparing for take off each with nervous looking rear passengers. Those Rotax engines quite noisy as they go through their pre flight checks, eventually taking off only using a very short run, as you can see a third the length of the runway to get airborne.

Plenty of other light aircraft taking off too, probably the busiest I've seen Shobdon for a while, and plenty to see as the sunlight was quite bright with not too much cloud cover.

In a similar fashion to my ride here my return would be to make it up as I go, taking a left out of the aerodrome, I decided to head down to Kington, then on through the Radnor forest taking the road toward Bishops Castle and through Clun and to Craven Arms.

Nice run, as logged by Google maps.

This route turned into the road to Much Wenlock before taking the right turn that would bring me on to the Bridgnorth-Kinlet road out towards Cleobury Mortimer with Clee Hill appearing again to the right on the way to Highley. I turned off through Button Oak to Bewdley and home. Really enjoying my new GS, finding I can flip the ESA setting between Dynamic to the softer 'Road' for the more rougher roads - great fun 😎!
